A new story, and an interview …
The next issue of Flashing Swords magazine — due out of the oven soon, I hear — will include a sword-and-sorcery romp penned by yours truly. The story is The Bloated Curse, which features my sailing man Spider John, swordplay (of course), a bit of opportunistic larceny, a very fat mage, an exclusive house of ill repute, some thoughts on redheads, angry foreigners, a dip in a pool and other fun stuff.
That issue also will feature an interview with me. I’ve done a lot of interviews — but seldom on this side of the question-and-answer exchange. I’ve participated in group interviews, where a lot of writers answers questions and only one or two of my answers ever got used, but this time it’s all me and my opinions. It was a new experience for me, but rather painless.

Looking forward to the story and the interview, Steve. I hope you reserved at least a little space for discussion of beer.
Nik: I don’t think I mentioned beer, but imbibing some probably would have made my answers more interesting.

Is Spider John live in the world than Calthus ? Have you planned a team up story with the two characters ?
Fabien: Spider John and Calthus inhabit different worlds altogether. In the world Calthus stalks, the gods have departed and magic is dying out. In Spider’s world, numerous gods still vie for mankind’s attention and magic is a great deal more prominent.
I have never considered a Calthus/Spider John team-up, but it’s fantasy, right? So … anything could happen.

Would ole Spider last longer than two seconds with Calthus before he became a red spot?
I’m thinking Spider would stand no chance at all in a fight against Calthus, but he’d be smart enough to figure that out on his own before things got that far.
